Dr Ian Faulconbridge

Ian has a Doctorate, Masters, and Bachelors degree in engineering and an MBA in project management. He is a Fellow of Engineers Australia (FIEAust); a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng); a Registered Professional Engineer in Queensland (RPEQ); and is registered on the National Professional Engineers Register (NPER). He is also a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (SMIEEE).

Since 1990, he has held a number of engineering, project management and academic positions in the fields of avionics, simulation, radar, communications and information systems.

He is the author of a book on radar and radar electronic warfare, a book on systems engineering and a book on avionics systems. He is the co-author of two books on managing complex technical projects, and part of his doctoral dissertation was recently published in a book on engineering education in Australia. He has also written a number of academic papers covering a range of technical and management topics.

Ian believes that today’s professionals must possess a balance of both theory and practical experience to be effective. Ian strikes this balance by working as an academic lecturer, workshop facilitator, and as an industry consultant.

Current academic activities include:
  • Contract lecturer at UNSW@ADFA in subjects including radar, radar electronic warfare, and systems engineering.
  • Corporate educator with QUT’s Project Management Academy (PMA), lecturing in strategic procurement
  • Industry lecturer with QUT’s School of Engineering Systems, lecturing in military electronics
  • Author/researcher in systems philosophy and engineering education.

  • System Analysis and Design of an integrated information system for a multi-national aerospace company.
  • Hazard and Risk Assessment associated with public display of military aircraft for a multi-national aerospace company.
  • Independent review of specifications and contractual documentation for an integrated security system project for military ammunition depots.
  • Systems engineering process alignment workshops for a global management and technology consultancy.
  • Mentoring workshops for graduate engineers from a leading international defence and security technology company.
  • Technical expert witness work involving technical disputes and arbitration.
  • Requirements engineering workshops for a leading multi-national telecommunications company.
  • Engineering management consultancy with a European vehicle manufacturer, and a European helicopter manufacturer.
  • Process improvement work for an innovative Brisbane-based technology company.
